The Couple

How we met

Judith's story

I skipped out on my danza class (don’t tell anyone) to attend a launch party in February 2017. I went to support two fellow NU alumnae, Tiffany & Morgan, as they celebrated the launching of their new publication, The TRiiBE. When I arrived I was happy to see my friends (Aire & Mari) and noticed there was this cute guy by the stage. I glanced over one to two times (but who's counting), and then my inner voice was like, “Judith, you came here to support The TRiiBE, not to find a guy”.

Then later in August, I attended a TRiiBE Tuesday happy hour. My friend Aireale invited me to go with her so that I could feel a little better after having taken the GRE (graduate school entrance exam) that morning. That’s where I finally met David. I noticed he was standing next to me for a while and eventually decided to make his first move and asked, “so you know Tiffany?” I remember looking at him a bit confused and being like, “yes, we went to NU”. We kept talking and I found out that he also went to NU and made the TRiiBE website, which I found impressive. Towards the end of the night, he asked me for my phone number. I was very hesitant, I had no intention of meeting someone that night, but David’s curiosity in my interests was new to me, so I listened to my intuition and decided to give him my number. On August 4, 2017, we went on our first date.

David's story

It was the evening of The TRiiBE’s launch party in February 2017 and everything was in full swing, music was bumping, drinks were flowing, everyone having a good time. Throughout the night, I noticed Judith stealing glances here and there. I had remembered seeing her around campus during my NU years. I always thought she was pretty but never knew her name so I decided to investigate. I asked Tiffany who she was and she told me her name and encouraged me to go talk to her, but the opening wasn’t there so I chickened out, which I regretted (tragic).

Fast forward 6 months, I see Judith attend our happy hour and tell myself I can’t let her leave without saying something. I maneuvered my way over to her side at the bar and after digging deep into my vast reservoir of smooth pick-up lines, I finally found my opening after seeing her finish a conversation with a group of people, including Tiffany. I started off with “so…. you know Tiffany?” Basic, yet successful in starting a conversation. We had a good conversation and I eventually asked for her number. While I sensed a slight hesitation, I could tell that she was feeling me and felt confident enough to ask her out and we had our first date later that week.
